The Torii armchair was originally part of an interiors project undertaken for the Megu Japanese restaurant at the Alpina hotel in Gstaad, a project inspired by traditional Japanese houses, temples and ancient kimonos.
It has been sensitively redesigned for this domestic version, conserving only a subtle reference to this world, to achieve sensitive, flowing lines. The cushions forming the seat, back and arms seem to have been placed within this structure. They are not unevocative of the Zabutons, Japanese cushions which, when placed on a tatami, are used for all everyday domestic activities.
