The Van Dyck Table's tripod base is a structural tour de force: three 100mm diameter metal tubes, available in Black-Nickel or Chrome finish, are connected at their base and spread outward to provide a footprint of sufficient width to support tops of up to 2400mm in length. The geometry of this connection — the precise angles at which the tubes meet and diverge — is the result of both structural calculation and aesthetic judgment, ensuring that the base reads as a single, unified form from all viewpoints rather than as three separate legs connected by a junction.
The hidden internal steel reinforcement system is a technical detail of considerable sophistication. The weight of a 2400 x 1200mm Calacatta marble top — potentially several hundred kilograms — must be transferred from the top surface through the tube structure to the floor without any visible structural augmentation. The internal steel system achieves this while allowing the external tube diameters to remain at 100mm — large enough to read as bold and architectural, but not so large as to make the base heavy or visually oppressive. The Van Dyck's combination of formal boldness, structural ingenuity, and material quality makes it one of Minotti's most technically accomplished dining table designs.
