Camaleonda’s new version keeps what made the original recognizable: a 90×90 cm seat module, matching backrest and armrest, and the deep capitoné stitching, still built with the same system of cables, hooks and rings first developed in 1970 that lets the sofa be taken apart and reassembled. What changed is what the eye does not see: the interior was rebuilt to make the sofa more comfortable than the original while easier to recycle.

The new interior is built like a sandwich, with layers of recycled or recyclable material that pull apart rather than fuse together. Wooden panels form the core of the seats, backs and armrests, and the padding is polyurethane at different densities and firmness, with shaped layers creating a spring-like effect under weight. The rings connecting each module are brass, the carabiner hardware stainless steel, and the cord polypropylene, sized for modules being unhooked and rehung as the layout changes.

Camaleonda’s unlimited modularity means each seat, back and armrest functions almost like a building block, so the sofa recombines into a new arrangement as a room’s use changes rather than staying fixed. That suits a living room serving more than one purpose, since the tie-rods and rings let the composition be unhooked and rebuilt without replacing any of the pieces.
