Canasta Outdoor Sofa

Canasta enlarges the geometric pattern of Vienna straw weaving to a much bigger scale, then applies that idea to outdoor seating: a circular sofa built from woven ribbons rather than solid upholstered panels, so a classic decorative pattern reads at a scale that works outdoors.

The frame is aluminium finished with a polyester powder coating for weather resistance, and the ribbons that form the woven surface are polyethylene fibre; B&B Italia paint the frame and weave the ribbons specifically to make the sofa weather resistant. Seat and back cushions are shaped polyurethane wrapped in a water repellent polyester fibre cover, and a version with a canopy adds a glass fibre frame with an electro polished steel and anodized aluminium mechanism, shaded by a Batik fabric cover, along with wheels for moving that heavier configuration into place. A waterproof cover in a PES fabric coated on one side with polyurethane protects the sofa when it is not in use.

Canasta’s circular shape and its weather resistant construction suit a poolside seating area or a garden, where the woven pattern can be read from more than one angle rather than from a single front view. Where a canopy version is being specified, the added wheels are worth noting, since that configuration is built to be moved into position rather than fixed permanently in place.
