Nendo's Wedge Dining Table demonstrates the studio's characteristic approach of taking a conventional functional object and re-reading its construction logic to produce a formally surprising result. The table/leg relationship — one of the most conventional and least examined aspects of furniture design — is here subjected to a formal inversion: instead of legs that terminate below the top surface, the Wedge's legs continue through the top plane, with the 45-degree bevel detailing at the point of intersection creating a joint that is simultaneously structural and decorative.
The precision required to achieve this effect is considerable. The bevel cuts on the legs must be exactly matched to the bevel cuts on the top edge to create the impression that the leg and top are a single continuous material form interrupted by the horizontal plane of the table surface. The internal steel support frame ensures that the connection between leg and top is structurally robust despite the complexity of the visible joint. Available in Moka-stained Ash, Satin-finish metal, or Calacatta marble, the Wedge adapts its material character while maintaining its formal identity across all finish options.
