Nendo's approach to the Belt Armchair demonstrates the studio's characteristic strategy of taking a single functional or technical detail and elevating it to the status of the defining design move. The belt — drawn from the vocabulary of luggage, saddlery, and high-end leather goods — is not a purely decorative element. It performs a structural function, gathering the upholstered shell at its waist and defining the transition between the back and seat zones of the chair. This functional honesty gives the belt detail an integrity that distinguishes it from mere decoration.
The hand-finishing of the leather belt — involving the same stitching, burnishing, and edge-finishing techniques used in the production of luxury leather goods — is one of the most demanding craft operations in the Minotti production process. The result is a detail that rewards close inspection: the stitching is precise and consistent, the leather surface is free of imperfection, and the buckle or closure mechanism (where applicable) operates with the smooth precision of a fine accessory. The Canaletto Walnut or Brandy-colored cast aluminum leg options provide a base detail that matches the material quality of the belt above.
