Bestlite BL1 Table Lamp by Robert Dudley Best (1930) is the original and most iconic piece in the Bestlite collection — the small adjustable table lamp with its angled shade and solid cast iron base was the first evidence of Bauhaus design in Britain and was chosen by Winston Churchill for his wartime use. Robert Dudley Best (1892–1984) was a British designer trained in Germany and deeply influenced by the Bauhaus movement. He designed the Bestlite collection in 1930 — arguably the first evidence of Bauhaus in Britain. The lamps have been produced without interruption ever since and are found everywhere from RAF engineering departments to 10 Downing Street.
