Marcio Kogan's Daiki Armchair reflects the Brazilian architect's deep engagement with Japanese spatial philosophy — a thread that runs through much of studio mk27's residential and furniture work. The name itself is Japanese, and the chair's formal qualities — restraint, precision, a preference for revealed construction over concealed joinery — align with the principles of Japanese making traditions. The 45-degree joinery technique used to construct the wooden shell creates corner intersections of particular visual clarity: the geometry is honest, the cuts are clean, and the resulting form reads as a deliberate compositional decision rather than a construction convenience.

The choice of Palisander Santos or flamed Ash veneer for the shell reflects a commitment to wood species of genuine character and beauty. Palisander Santos — a warm, richly figured Brazilian rosewood substitute — carries the associations of mid-century modernist furniture design, connecting the Daiki to a tradition of luxury wood furniture that predates the dominance of metal and polyurethane. The 360-degree swivel base with return mechanism in Bronze or Black Coffee finish adds a practical dimension that makes the Daiki particularly effective in office and study environments where swivel function is desirable.
