The Dibbets Flag Rug extends the formal investigation of the Dibbets family from a single-material, uniform surface to a geometric composition of multiple color zones — each zone reflecting light differently based on the direction of the pile and the specific color of the Lyocell fiber used. This multi-zone construction, executed using the intarsia technique borrowed from the traditions of fine carpet-making and textile design, creates a surface that appears to change as the viewer moves around it, with different zones appearing lighter or darker depending on the angle of light and the viewer's position relative to the rug.

The geometric precision required for intarsia-style color-blocking in a hand-tufted rug is considerable. The boundary between adjacent color zones must be executed with the accuracy of a drawn line — any deviation from the intended geometry is immediately apparent in the finished surface and cannot be corrected after the fact. This precision, combined with the material quality of the Lyocell fiber and the visual sophistication of the color-blocking design, places the Dibbets Flag among the most technically accomplished rug designs in the Minotti collection.
