Lyocell — the fiber used exclusively in the Dibbets rug — is a cellulosic material produced from wood pulp through a closed-loop manufacturing process that recovers and reuses the solvents used in production, making it among the most environmentally considered luxury fiber options available. Beyond its environmental credentials, Lyocell's fiber structure gives it properties of particular value in rug production: its smooth, uniform surface reflects light with exceptional efficiency, producing the silky sheen that is the Dibbets's defining visual quality; its natural absorbency gives it a soft, slightly cool hand-feel that is immediately apparent to bare feet; and its inherent strength, combined with the hand-tufting technique, produces a pile structure of considerable durability under the foot traffic and furniture loading that luxury residential and hospitality rugs must withstand.

The hand-tufting technique — in which individual fiber tufts are inserted through a backing material using a hand-held tufting gun, then anchored with a secondary latex backing — produces a pile of consistent height and density across the entire rug surface. This consistency is important for the Dibbets's visual quality: the reflective sheen of the Lyocell fiber is most effective when the pile is perfectly uniform, as any irregularity in pile height or density creates visible variations in light reflection that compromise the overall quality of the surface.
