BIG Ideas (Bjarke Ingels Group) for Louis Poulsen, 2017.

The Keglen was born from an architectural commission: when BIG designed the Tirpitz Museum in the dune landscape of West Jutland, Denmark, they also designed its pendant lighting in collaboration with Louis Poulsen. The resulting cone — galvanized, angular, with a built-in curved diffuser that resembles a drop of water suspended inside the shade — was so well received that Louis Poulsen developed it into a full lighting family. The Keglen Table is based on the Ø175 pendant shade, with the stem morphing directly into the bottom diffuser, creating a continuous organic geometry where the structural and luminous elements are inseparable.

The table version is available with either a round base or a pin mounting for desk installation. The cone-shaped shade in spun aluminum delivers glare-free downward-directed light via an integrated LED; a small opening at the top of the shade allows a gentle uplight for ambient presence. The switch and dimmer are located on the base or pin. Available in matte black and matte white. The design language is severe and architectural — it reads as a piece of graphic industrial design as much as a lamp.

BIG Ideas is the product design division of Bjarke Ingels Group, managed by architect and partner Jakob Lange. BIG is one of the most celebrated architectural practices in the world, with projects across Europe, North America, and Asia. The Keglen collaboration with Louis Poulsen is their most developed product design series.
