The Leslie Bergère occupies an unusual position in the Minotti collection as one of the few pieces designed specifically to address the experience of the individual occupant from the inside out — the quality of visual and acoustic enclosure provided, the feeling of being held within a protected space, is as important as the chair's appearance from without. This inside-out design thinking reflects the influence of the bergère tradition, which developed specifically to address the needs of readers and writers requiring sustained, private occupation of a single chair for extended periods.

The cold-molded structural polyurethane shell provides the rigid outer form that makes the Leslie's enclosing quality possible — it must be both structurally self-supporting at 1000mm height and precisely formed to wrap the sitter effectively. The dual-material leather/fabric upholstery options — which allow different materials to be used on the interior and exterior surfaces of the chair — acknowledge the Leslie's bi-material character and enable sophisticated two-tone compositions that read differently from inside and outside the chair.
