The Morgan's elliptical leg cross-section is a design detail of deceptive subtlety. Circular tubes — the conventional choice for metal dining table legs — read identically from all viewpoints: their circular cross-section means they present the same apparent width regardless of the angle from which they are viewed. Elliptical tubes, by contrast, appear narrow when viewed along their major axis and wider when viewed along their minor axis. This variation — subtle enough not to read as inconsistency, but noticeable enough to create visual interest — gives the Morgan a quality of visual richness that circular tubes cannot achieve.
The choice of solid Oak or massive Marble slab for the Morgan's top reflects Minotti's commitment to authentic material quality at the largest scale. 'Massive marble' — the term used to distinguish single-slab stone tops from veneered or engineered alternatives — involves sourcing stone blocks of sufficient size to produce tops of 2800 x 1100mm in a single piece, a requirement that significantly limits the available supply of suitable material and correspondingly increases both cost and quality. The internal steel stabilization system allows the Morgan to support these heavy tops without requiring additional structural elements that would compromise the elegance of the leg arrangement.
