Neri & Hu for Artemide, 2017.

The nh collection grew from Neri&Hu’s ongoing collaboration with Artemide — a dialogue between a Shanghai-based architecture and design practice rooted in cross-cultural research, and a manufacturer committed to what it calls The Human Light. The nh table lamp distills the idea of a lamp to its simplest possible elements: a hand-blown glass sphere, a brushed brass ring, and the relationship between them. The sphere slides freely along the ring, allowing the diffuser to be angled at will; the ring serves simultaneously as a base when the lamp rests on a surface, and as a hook when it is hung from a wall or ceiling. The same object functions as a table lamp, a wall sconce, or a pendant with no hardware change required.

Neri&Hu describe the nh series as a reinterpretation of Oriental lantern culture in contemporary form — the lamp as a moveable, transferable light source rather than a fixed architectural element. The lamp ships with an LED light source included, in eco-friendly cardboard packaging.

About the Designers

Neri&Hu Design and Research Office was founded in 2004 by Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, with studios in Shanghai and London. The practice works across architecture, interior design, product design, and graphics for an international client base, and has designed products for Poltrona Frau, Fritz Hansen, ClassiCon, Moooi, and Lema, among others.
