The Quadrado Coffee Table reflects Marcio Kogan's consistent interest in the relationship between indoor and outdoor living environments — a theme that runs through much of studio mk27's residential architectural work in Brazil and that has found consistent expression in Kogan's furniture designs for Minotti. The Teak grating frame and natural stone top are materials that read as fundamentally outdoor in character — Teak is associated with garden furniture and boat decks, while Basaltina and Lava stone are geological materials of strong visual weight and natural texture — but their combination in an interior coffee table creates a productive material tension that brings the richness of natural outdoor materials into the controlled environment of the interior.

Basaltina — a volcanic rock quarried in central Italy — is the more refined of the two stone options: its fine, consistent grain and neutral grey tone provide a sophisticated and relatively quiet surface that allows the Teak grating below to remain visually active. Lava stone, by contrast, is a more dramatically textured material with a more pronounced geological character that makes the table a more assertive presence in its surroundings. The stainless steel internal supports that connect the Teak grating frame to the stone top are engineered to maintain precise alignment between the two elements while allowing for the differential thermal expansion and contraction that occurs in a material combination of wood and stone.
