The Torii Nest represents a deepening of the formal and cultural investigation that began with the original Torii Armchair. Where the Torii derives its reference from the architectural form of the Japanese gate, the Torii Nest looks to the craft traditions associated with those sacred structures — the woven materials used in Japanese ceremonial and domestic objects. The hand-woven leather or technical cord backrest is not a decorative appliqué but a load-bearing structural element, woven through a metal frame with the precision required to support a human back under repeated use.
The hand-woven detailing is among the most labor-intensive production operations in the Minotti collection. Each backrest requires individual assembly by skilled craftspeople who must maintain consistent tension and pattern across the entire woven surface — a process that cannot be mechanized without losing the subtle irregularities that give hand-woven objects their visual warmth. The metal base in Bronze finish connects the Torii Nest to the broader Torii family's material language while supporting the woven backrest with the structural precision its formal delicacy requires.
