BL4 Floor Lamp

The BL4 floor lamp keeps the same core mechanism that runs through the wider Bestlite range: a lamp built around an adjustable arm rather than a fixed shade position, so the light itself can be repositioned rather than just the lamp being moved. Originally designed in 1930, that adjustability was practical from the start, and it is why the lamp was first put to use in garages and Royal Air Force engineering departments, where function mattered more than any question of style.

Gubi keep the design close to its industrial roots and true to the original drawing. It was singled out by Architects Journal, which described the lamp as an early example of the Bauhaus arriving in Britain, a feature that brought the wider Bestlite range to a broader design audience.
