Light au Lait

Light au Lait begins from a small observation: a cup and saucer already sit on countless kitchen counters, so turning that same shape into a light source needs no explanation to the person using it. The stoneware cup is mounted on a ball joint rather than fixed in place, which is the real decision behind the piece: instead of a fixed downlight, the fixture can be rotated and tilted so the beam is aimed exactly where someone is working or reading.

The cup and its saucer are stoneware. A stainless steel spoon rests across the saucer, and a light pull on the spoon turns the fixture on or off, so nothing separate needs to be added to the wall or the cord. Wired for both North American and European current, the fixture ships without a bulb, so a lamp can be chosen to suit the room and replaced by the owner rather than requiring a service call.

Because it reads as an object first and a light fixture second, Light au Lait suits places where a fixture does not need to announce itself: above a kitchen counter, beside a coffee station, or on the wall of a cafe or small restaurant dining room.
