Andersen Bed

Andersen’s bed borrows its language directly from the seating system it is named for: balanced, raised lines and a frame that sits up on legs rather than settling onto the floor. The headboard is generously padded rather than treated as a flat backdrop, which is where most of the bed’s comfort argument sits.

Headboard and frame are built from multi-ply wood, joined with metal corner joints that make the bed easy to assemble. Both are padded with high-resilience polyurethane foam in varying densities, and the frame is covered with a fiber thermally bound to white canvas that keeps the upholstery soft and separates it from the padding. The headboard’s inner quilt is divided into sections of antiallergenic fiber, which is what gives the head support its softness. The feet are die-cast metal in a Pewter finish, glossy enough to resist fingerprints, and rated to withstand roughly three hundred hours of salt mist exposure along with scratches, chemicals and UV without losing their finish.

Because the design is deliberately understated, Andersen reads differently depending on the upholstery chosen, which makes it a fitting bed for a primary bedroom built around an existing Andersen sofa or armchair elsewhere in the home. The slatted base can be set at more than one height inside the frame, so designers should settle on the base position before specifying the mattress.
