Solid Side Table

Solid begins with the simplest possible volume, a square block, and asks how many jobs it can do without changing its language. These taller, narrow pieces are that idea at its most versatile: tall enough to be pulled up beside a dining table as an extra seat, and compact enough to stand as a side table next to a sofa or bed.

The finish does the rest. The glossy lacquer version turns the block into a single saturated volume of colour, while ash veneer with an open-pore Moka lacquer keeps the grain visible and sits more quietly beside wood floors and cabinetry. The square format is also made in saddle-hide, using the technique of fine leather luggage: every side is trimmed with precise stitching along the edges, over a structure of plywood and high-resilience polyurethane foam on a matt black metal base.

In a dining room, one or two of these beside the table give extra seating that reads as furniture rather than as a spare chair. In living rooms and bedrooms the narrow rectangular sizes work along a sofa back, at the end of a bed or in a hallway. Minotti intend the family for residential and hospitality interiors alike, and in a hotel room or a restaurant lounge the saddle-hide square adds a tactile accent. Designers should confirm sizes against the chosen lacquer, since not every colour is offered in every width, and should place the saddle-hide version where it will be touched and sat on.
