Dibbets Flag Rug

Dibbets Flag reworks the plain, single-colour surface of the standard rug into a graphic one: horizontal bands of colour, in strong contrast or closely related tones, running the width of the rug like a flag. Minotti size the collection so a single rug can mark out a zone of a room rather than simply sit under furniture, the same modular thinking behind the plain Dibbets range applied to a bolder surface.

The construction is shared with the rest of the Dibbets family: a 16 mm surface of shorn Lyocell, hand-tufted rather than machine-made, which is what gives the coloured bands their bright, slightly iridescent finish. An upper layer of polyester sits over a lower backing treated in a natural, antiallergenic latex. Flag rugs can also be made to measure in multiples of 50 cm, so the bands can be scaled to the room rather than the room fitted to a stock size.

The banded pattern suits a room where the rug does more than cover the floor: a large open living or dining area where it needs to visually separate a seating group from a walkway, or mark a dining zone within a bigger space. Because the stripes run in one direction, a designer should set their orientation against the room’s own lines, a fireplace wall or the run of a dining table, before ordering.
