Extinct Animals Rug

The Extinct Animals collection grew out of a collaboration with artist Ada Sokół, who reimagined species that no longer exist, among them the Mimic Moth, the Queen Cobra and the Golden Tiger, through a lens of digital surrealism rather than straightforward illustration. The result treats the rug less as a plain floor covering and more as a way to bring a vivid, invented creature into a room, blending photographic realism with a clearly digital, almost dreamlike sense of colour and pattern.

Each rug is built from a pile in 100 percent polyamide, carrying the animal imagery across a square format, set over a woven backing in polypropylene that gives the piece the structure to lie flat as a rug or hang flat as a wall piece. That backing is what makes the dual use possible: the same square carpet that sits underfoot can be mounted on a wall, so the choice between floor and wall is a matter of where the room needs the colour rather than a limitation of the object itself.

As a floor piece, it works as a bold accent in a living room or a hallway where a plain rug would otherwise go unnoticed, and hung on a wall it functions as a self contained piece of colour in a room that has clear space to give it. Designers should decide early which orientation the piece will take, since a rug chosen for the floor and a piece chosen for a wall call for a different scale in the room around it.
