Raimond II starts from geometry rather than decoration: each fixture is built as a true sphere using the same mathematical structure as a geodesic dome, and Moooi ties the size of every version in the family to a prime number rather than a rounded, arbitrary measurement. That consistency, shape and scale both coming from the same underlying mathematics, is what gives the whole Raimond family its unmistakable, repeatable form rather than any single decorative detail.

The sphere itself is built from two stainless steel spheres set one inside the other, joined by a thin, openwork triangular mesh of struts that carries the LEDs and also transports the electric current between them, so the structure and the wiring are effectively the same network rather than two separate systems. Each point of light sits behind a PMMA lens, and the steel sphere itself is built for indoor use only; it is not constructed to withstand marine exposure, so it belongs inside rather than in a coastal or waterside setting.

As a pendant, Raimond II reads best in a room with enough height and open air around it for the sphere to be seen in the round, which makes an entry hall, a stairwell, or a dining room with a high ceiling a natural fit rather than a low, tight space where the geometry would be lost against the ceiling. Designers should plan the mounting height carefully, since the piece is meant to be viewed from below and from the side as a full sphere, not just as a flat disc of light.
