Soft Dream

Soft Dream starts from a brief to design a sofa built purely around comfort, and the clearest sign of that intent is how little of it touches the floor. The sofa is lifted onto slender cast metal feet rather than resting a heavy base directly on the ground, which keeps a piece built for deep, generous cushions from reading as bulky in a room.

That base is upholstered in cowhide leather, and it carries seat and backrest cushions filled generously with goose down, which is where the sofa’s comfort actually sits rather than in the frame beneath it. The armrests are offered in a high and a low version, each built with more depth than a standard armrest, so the arm itself can double as a place to rest a cushion or lean into rather than acting only as a side boundary to the seat. Both the fabric and leather covers come off for cleaning or refreshing, and additional backrest cushions can be added where a client wants a deeper, more relaxed lean.

Because the armrests are built deep enough to lean into and the cushions are filled that generously, Soft Dream suits a family room or a media room where the sofa is used for stretching out as much as sitting upright, more than a formal living room built around posture. A designer should choose between the high and low armrest early, since it changes the sofa’s profile.
