Gordon Dining Table

Gordon takes its name from a family of Cattelan Italia dining tables built on an idea of ordered geometry, where lines that look almost chaotic settle into symmetry underneath the top. That effect is sharpest in the round version of this glass table, where the base resolves into a three dimensional star shape when seen from above. The family also includes a version with a decorative printed top, a wood topped table, and a ceramic topped table, but this Gordon keeps to the plain crystal top the base was designed to carry.

The base is an embossed lacquered steel frame, in a range of finishes. Above it sits a glass top in clear or extra clear glass, finished with a reversed bevel on the rectangular version of the table and a plain bevel around the round one. The top is set on the base as a separate element rather than fused to it.

Because the glass top leaves the base in full view, Gordon suits a dining room where the table is meant to be the centre of the space, and the round version is the one where the star shape reads most clearly. Designers choosing between the round and rectangular options should weigh how the table will actually be approached and seen, since the two shapes carry the design idea differently.
