Greta’s design idea sits in how the seat and its cushion are split apart rather than built as one shape: a hollow structure carries a wraparound cushion that joins the backrest to the armrests, decorated with four stitches that create a soft capitonne effect, while a floating backrest, shaped as a curved cylinder, wraps around the back on its own. The result plays upholstered material against the rigid structure underneath it, full cushioned volume against the open space of the frame.

The frame is an embossed lacquered steel, in a range of finishes, built on three slender legs with an elliptical cross section, which Cattelan Italia describe as lighter and more manageable than the Greta Wood version. What reads as a single central leg at the back is actually two legs set close together, meeting at one point of support rather than spreading into a fourth corner. The cover is offered in fabric, micro nubuck, soft leather, or synthetic leather, and it is not removable once fitted.

With arms built into the seat rather than added onto it, Greta suits a dining room that wants the comfort of a small armchair at the table, and the same family offers a stool with armrests for a kitchen snack bar and a low, wide lounge armchair for a living area, so a room can carry the same design language across different seat heights. Designers should decide on the cover material early, since it cannot be changed once the chair is upholstered.
