Lou Swivel Coffee Table

Lou is designed to be grouped. Minotti imagine several of its tables placed near one another to form a small domestic landscape, and the swivel coffee table is the piece in that family that moves. It turns through 360 degrees, so the two open compartments can be swung toward whoever is sitting beside it, turning a fixed surface into one that follows the way a room is actually used.

The construction combines modern technology with cabinetmaking tradition. A contoured MDF core is sheathed in plywood, finished either in brushed larch veneer with open-pore Licorice lacquer or in glossy lacquer, and the curved edges are milled to shape. The two compartments are sheathed in metal with a Bronze satin finish. The top is contoured and partially recessed into the body, standing just proud of it, and comes in marble such as Calacatta or Verde Lepanto or in Black pâte de verre, whose depth contrasts with the texture of the larch.

In a living room, the swivel table works beside a sofa or lounge chair, and Minotti design it to sit with any of the seats in their collection. Placed with other Lou tables, it builds a layered group in front of a sectional, and a Lou nightstand carries the same language into the bedroom. In hotel suites, the compartments keep personal items tidy and within reach. Designers should consider which way the compartments will face at rest, and match the top to the room: marble brings colour and veining, while pâte de verre gives a darker, glassier note.
