Yang Seating System

Yang is built around Offset elements, where the backrest sits offset from the seat rather than aligned with it, breaking the continuous line of a sectional and creating a looser rhythm across otherwise geometric modules. Ottomans that can sit at the armrest as a surface or in front of the seat as a leg rest let one set of modules serve several uses without adding separate pieces.

The seat sits on a multi-ply wood frame with elastic strap suspension, topped with variable-density foam shaped with a concave contour so the cushion settles into it. Armrests and backrests carry a memory-foam layer under channeled goose down cushions, giving the soft volumes their settled feel rather than a firm, boxy one. The base is a plain aluminium bar in a polished finish that runs the length of each element, keeping attention on the geometry of the modules rather than the legs. All covers, in fabric and leather, are removable.

The informal, offset rhythm suits a family room or casual lounge meant for daily use rather than a formal reception room, and works in an open-plan space where ottomans can be rearranged to extend seating or pulled aside for everyday use. Elements fitted with the optional headrest suit a spot for reading or watching television for long stretches, since it is built to support upright posture rather than a full recline. Designers should plan for the ottomans as a working part of the layout, since they give the composition its flexibility.
