Goodman Seating System

Goodman’s defining move is a matelassé stitch across its one-piece seats that reads as a quilted cross-pattern of shadow and light, a graphic detail reworked as a flexible, modular system. Linear runs are joined by curved and tilted elements set at fixed angles, so a composition can turn a corner instead of staying strictly rectilinear, and a contoured tray in saddle hide can sit at the armrest, turning part of the cushioning into a surface always within reach.

The seat is built on a plywood base over a core of steel pocket springs for resistance to sagging, wrapped in layered-density foam and a contoured webbing that keeps the surface comfortable over years of use. Armrests and backrests are quilted in a fill made from certified recycled fibre, carrying the matelassé motif on the surface while staying hypoallergenic. Backrest and structure covers, in fabric or leather, are fully removable once the metal perimeter base is detached. Feet in a polished chrome or bronze finish, matched to the frame, lift the composition so its volumes read as light.
