The Goodman Seating System takes its visual cues from the confident material language of 1970s Italian and international design — a period defined by deep, enveloping seating forms, rich material combinations, and the deliberate use of surface texture to generate visual interest. The 'matelassé' stitching technique, which creates a quilted or embossed pattern across the upholstered surface by stitching through multiple layers of material under tension, is applied across both seat and back cushions to create a consistent textural environment.
The suspended base frame — a continuous perimeter of polished metal that runs beneath the entire configuration — is both a functional and aesthetic element. Functionally, it provides a stable structural platform for the modular components. Aesthetically, it creates the impression that the seating mass floats above the floor, reducing the visual weight of even large-scale configurations. The integrated aluminum trays, upholstered in leather to match or complement the main upholstery, are a practical accessory that has become increasingly important in contract environments where specifiers require integrated solutions for drinks, devices, and personal effects.
