Guscio Chair

The Guscio armchair is built around a single idea: a chair that encloses rather than merely supports. Its shell wraps around the body to create a defined, contained seat for one person, giving the piece presence without requiring a large footprint. Flexform designed it to move between very different settings, working equally well in a private lounge, a corporate office or a boutique reception.

The shell itself is molded from structural polyurethane foam, giving the enveloping form its strength without adding bulk. The seat cushion is filled with sterilized goose down, certified to the Assopiuma gold label, over a core insert built from a crushproof material so the seat keeps its shape under regular use. A Soft version adds extra padding through the seat back with a layer of Dacron and memory foam, for a plusher sit. Both covers are fixed rather than removable. The base can be specified in solid wood, or in metal, and either way it rests on pads finished in a protective thermoplastic material.

That range of bases makes Guscio easy to place in a quiet seating corner at home, and just as suited to a hospitality lounge or boutique waiting area where a single seat works better than a full sofa. Designers should choose the wood or metal base against the other finishes in the room, and settle whether the Soft version’s extra padding suits how the chair will be used.
