Horizonte’s idea is to treat a sofa as a raised platform rather than a set of separate cushions sitting on legs. A recessed plinth in matt black varnished metal lifts the whole system a short distance off the floor, and the upholstered seats, backrests and armrests sit on top of it as large, deliberately oversized cushions, which is what gives the system its sense of suspension.

Comfort comes from pocketed springs set inside variable-density polyurethane, chosen so the cushions hold their shape and return to it after use. The base beneath the cushions can be finished entirely in leather, entirely in fabric, or in a mix of both, with the fabric strips joined by a hidden zip and the leather strips lapped and folded in a technique borrowed from fine leather goods. Some modules extend into a top in either a warm wood such as Canaletto walnut or a stone such as Nero Marquina, so a coffee-table surface can sit within the composition instead of beside it.

Horizonte suits an open living room where a sectional needs to read as one continuous object rather than a collection of pieces pushed together, and the built-in tops let a designer skip a separate coffee table in that same run. Designers should decide early which modules carry an integrated top, since that choice shapes the whole layout.
