Mattia reworks a shape drawn from Minotti’s own archive: a finely contoured shell opens around the seat the way a flower opens around its centre, built to carry a rolled detail at the backrest. The chair balances a rigid outer shell against a softer, more yielding seat inside it, rather than being uniformly firm or soft throughout.

The backrest shell is moulded from a structural rigid foam and upholstered in fabric or leather, while the seat sits on a plywood base with elastic webbing, padded in high-resilience foam and wrapped in a heat-bonded cotton casing for softness against the firmer shell around it. The seat cushion is filled with sectioned goose down over a foam core, kept to a hygiene standard set out in EC food-contact regulation for down products, and every cover on the structure, seat and backrest comes off completely in fabric and leather. Slender steel feet in a Black-Nickel finish keep the shell visually light against the floor, and on the swivel lounge version the base turns through a full 360 degrees and returns to its starting position on its own.

The self-returning swivel base suits a reading corner or a hotel suite seating area where the chair needs to face different directions and settle back afterward. Because the same shell also appears as a fixed armchair and a three-seater sofa, Mattia can furnish a seating group in one language, reserving the swivel version for the one seat that benefits from turning. Designers should decide early whether the shell will be leather with a fabric seat, or covered entirely in one material.
