Noor Coffee Table

Noor starts from a material decision rather than a shape: a ceramic body, made using an old hand-worked technique that means no two pieces come out quite identical, formed into two truncated cones that meet to make one table. Choosing ceramic over metal or stone for a coffee table is itself the decision that defines the piece, since it brings a handmade, slightly irregular quality to a category usually dominated by very precise materials.

The two available finishes, a warm Bronze and a cool Platinum, come from a second firing applied after the ceramic has already been vitrified once, which permanently bonds the metal layer into the glaze rather than leaving it sitting on top as a coating. That second firing is why the finish reads as part of the material rather than a surface treatment, and it is also why the piece needs a filled interior: the hollow ceramic form is packed with a multi-use polyurethane foam to improve the durability of the ceramic.

Because it reads as a single crafted object rather than a functional surface built for heavy daily use, Noor suits a spot where a small table is meant to be noticed: beside a lounge chair, in a bedroom corner, or grouped with taller tables where its low, rounded shape provides contrast. The handmade nature of the ceramic means every piece varies slightly, which is worth setting expectations for at the point of sale. Designers should choose Bronze or Platinum against the room’s existing metal tones, since the finish is the main variable in an otherwise fixed design.
