Van Dyck begins with the base, not the top: three welded metal tubes, 10 cm in diameter, meet and spread outward into a tripod that reads as sculpture on its own before any top is chosen. Building the structure first, then offering it with a wide range of tops, lets the same striking base carry very different characters depending on the room.
The top choices push that further, since the material is left to the designer rather than fixed to the base. Tempered glass lets the tripod show through the surface, keeping the piece visually light where the base is meant to be seen. Marble gives Van Dyck a heavier, more architectural presence, its veining sitting above the structure rather than beside it. Canaletto walnut or oak read warmer still, shifting the table from a piece built around an exposed base toward a conventional dining table with an unusual leg.
Because the base is constant and the top is the variable, Van Dyck unifies a scheme rather than dictating it: the same tripod can anchor a formal dining room in marble or a relaxed everyday table in oak. Designers should choose the top weight and finish against the chairs and flooring already selected, since the base stays fixed while everything above it changes.
