Pianura

Pianura works from a simple pairing: a marble top set on an aluminium base, offered in either a square or a rectangular footprint so the same idea can suit a compact seating group or a longer run of sofas. The line also offers a version with a tray integrated into the top, which changes how the table is used without changing its outline.

The top is marble, and B&B Italia offer numerous finishes for both the top and the structure. Underneath, the structure is die-cast aluminium with extruded sections, a construction that keeps the base light and low in profile so the marble reads as the dominant material rather than competing with a heavier frame. Where the tray version is specified, the integrated tray is aluminium sheet covered in thick leather, a softer material set into the stone, and small plastic ferrules protect the floor at each contact point.

In a living room, Pianura’s square or rectangular shape lets it sit centrally in front of a sofa run or off to one side as a secondary surface, and the choice between the plain marble top and the version with the leather tray is really a choice about how much visual weight the table should carry in the room. A designer working with a marble top nearby, on a console or dining table, can use Pianura to repeat that material at a lower level rather than introducing a third surface type.
