Ribes treats outdoor seating as something that should keep changing rather than settle into one fixed arrangement. The system is built from sofas, central and end elements, chaise longues and ottomans, and every piece takes one of two different backrests, one built from a woven polypropylene interlacing and the other from a plain roller cushion, so the same base reads differently depending on which is fitted. Because pieces can be added or rearranged later, a straight sofa can extend into a corner group, a corner group can fold toward a bed, and a sommier element can turn into a facing pair of seats.

Comfort comes from a construction usually associated with indoor seating: a futon base built from flexible glass fibre slats resting on an aluminium frame, with seat cushions meant to work as a mattress to stretch out on rather than a firm perch. That base sits inside a die-cast aluminium and extrusion structure with a polyester powder finish, and every upholstered surface is built in polyester fibre recycled from PET with a water repellent polyester cover, backed by a waterproof cloth coated in polyurethane on one side.

Ribes suits the outdoor spaces that sit between the house and the garden rather than the open lawn: a veranda, a covered terrace, a loggia or a shaded patio, where a sofa needs to feel as settled as an indoor piece while still living outdoors. Because the arrangement can change as a household’s use of that space changes, designers should plan the covered footprint around the largest configuration Ribes might grow into.
