Flair O’ Couture takes the woven backrest of the wider Flair O’ chair family and rebuilds it using a specific weaving method, a circular loom technique known as tombolo, an old craft associated with the area where B&B Italia is based. The steel structure inside the backrest is fully wrapped in a woven polypropylene interlacing rather than left exposed, so the traditional weaving pattern becomes the visible surface of an otherwise modern chair.
Underneath the woven surface, the chair is built on a tubular steel and steel profile frame, with two padded cushions on the seat and back finished in a flexible cold shaped polyurethane foam under a polyester fibre cover for the parts that actually take weight. The base is a single truncated cone shaped foot set on a lenticular support, fitted with a swivel mechanism built in steel laminate and aluminium extrusion that returns automatically to its starting position after use, so the chair resets itself at a dining table rather than staying wherever it was left. Ferrules in thermoplastic material protect the point where the base meets the floor.
As a dining chair, Flair O’ Couture suits a dining room where the automatic return swivel matters, letting a seat turn toward a conversation and settle back to the table afterward without anyone adjusting it. Because both the seat cushions and the woven backrest read as textured surfaces, designers should think about how much pattern the room can already carry before adding a table’s worth of woven chairs around it.
