Hybrid’s premise is that outdoor seating does not have to look or feel different from a sofa built for a living room. Rather than treating weatherproofing as a visible feature, the system hides its structure and lets the upholstery, thick padding fully wrapped in fabric, do the visual work, so the piece reads as an ordinary sofa that happens to live outside.

The frame is die cast aluminium and extrusions finished with a polyester powder coating, built to carry seat slats in glass fibre rather than wood. Over that structure sits a newly developed outdoor mattress cushion, its foam graded in density so the body is held rather than allowed to settle too far into the seat, and wrapped in a water repellent polyester fibre instead of an ordinary upholstery cloth. The legs beneath are kept nearly invisible, so the seat appears to float a short distance above the ground, and a low backrest can be raised with an additional headrest cushion when a deeper recline is wanted.

Hybrid is built for spaces where inside and outside blur together, a living room that opens straight onto a terrace or a garden rather than treating the garden as separate from the house. A designer working on this kind of continuous indoor and outdoor plan can use Hybrid on the terrace to carry the look of the upholstered living room outside, rather than changing to a visibly different outdoor line at the door.
