Torii Armchair

Torii takes its structural cue from the entrance gates that give the piece its name: a base of solid metal rods whose lines recall the shrine gate, set under a deliberately soft, rounded seat.

The armchair’s shell is metal-reinforced plywood, padded in high-resilience, variable-density polyurethane over elastic webbing for the seat, with a metal backrest coated in the same foam and finished in a breathable fiber laminated to cotton. The backrest and armrest structure carries a vertical quilted pattern finished with double stitching, edged in a piping of eco-leather or eco-nubuck. The frame itself is a solid metal rod, 25 mm across, varnished in Bronze with a polished, anti-fingerprint finish, with a small brass, Black-Nickel-finished disk at the end of each leg as the one contrasting detail. Structure and cushion covers come off completely in both fabric and leather.

Torii’s round armchairs come in several sizes within the same family, and the smallest is also offered as a Torii Nest version with a braided leather backrest, so a designer can move between a plain and a more textured reading of the same shape without changing the base. In a living room, the round form works well as a chair that does not need to face a fixed direction, and because the base is available in leather or fabric, it can be matched to a Torii sofa nearby or treated as a standalone accent seat.
