Fynn Armchair

Fynn is built around one defining part: an elongated, gently curved armrest, rounded and smooth enough that it is finished by hand, and that line runs through the whole family of chairs, benches and tables. The armchair comes in two versions: a wood-framed Fynn with a separate padded seat and backrest cushion, and a Fynn Saddle-Hide, where a single piece of saddle-hide covers seat and backrest as one surface, keeping its own cushioning, optional only on the smaller dining chair.

The wood-framed version rests on a structure in solid ash, stained a dark licorice colour, cut on CNC machinery and joined with dowels rather than screws, keeping every joint hidden. A die-cast aluminium piece connects the seat shell to the wood frame, and a small black-nickel detail marks the back of the structure. The seat shell is steel, coated in fire-resistant foam and hung on rubber-content elastic webbing, then cased in a breathable fibre for comfort. Whichever cover is chosen, fabric or leather, it comes off by removing the wood frame rather than unzipping the cushion.

Because the armrest carries the design, Fynn reads best where it can be seen from the side, at the head of a sofa arrangement or beside a console rather than pushed into a corner. The wood-framed version suits a room built around timber floors or cabinetry, while the Saddle-Hide version brings one more tactile material into a room that wants less break between frame and cover. Designers specifying a set of Fynn chairs should pick one version for the whole group, since mixing the two changes how uniform the line reads.
