Brasilia Bed

Brasilia’s bed carries the same Mid-Century Contemporary language as the wider seating collection into the night area, rather than treating a bedroom as a separate problem. The frame is lifted off the floor and reads as airy, and a large wooden headboard wraps around the padded part of the bed like a piece of casework. That headboard runs out at either end into a pair of matching bedside tables, so the whole composition reads as one continuous object.

The headboard’s staved surface comes in a dark, stained palisander Santos or a lighter, open-pore oak with a honey stain, a choice that sets the tone of the whole wall. The bed is a one-piece, free-standing plywood frame built for a pocket-spring boxspring rather than a slatted base, with a perforated plywood panel and technical fabric that let air move through the structure. Both the boxspring covering and the headboard upholstery are completely removable in fabric or leather, and the headboard lifts clear of the frame by its own handles.

Because the headboard and night tables are one designed object, Brasilia suits a primary bedroom where the whole wall behind the bed should feel resolved. The bedside elements come as a version with a shelf and a version with a drawer, both suspended rather than legged, so a designer can mix the two along one wall. Minotti also offer a more minimal version without the wooden headboard. One point worth flagging early: the bed’s construction does not allow a slatted base to be substituted, and mattress height cannot be adjusted.
