Caratos Dining Chair

Caratos is built around one recognisable structural idea carried across a collection of upholstered chairs offered in several different versions: a die-cast aluminium base that stays constant even as the upholstery, fabric or leather, changes from chair to chair. That shared structure is what lets the collection move between a domestic dining room and a contract setting without needing a different chair for each.

Inside the upholstery, the chair’s internal frame is tubular steel and steel profiles, padded with a flexible, cold-shaped polyurethane foam over a polyester fibre cover. The shell beneath the padding is polypropylene, and on some versions the back section is a moulded hard polyurethane fixed with metal pins rather than upholstered outright. The support frame itself is cast in an aluminium alloy, with certain versions built instead in die-cast magnesium, and the whole chair sits on plastic ferrules. Covers come in either fabric or leather, giving the same aluminium structure a noticeably different character depending on which is chosen.

Because Caratos is built for both domestic and contract use, it suits a residential dining room as well as a hospitality dining room. Designers specifying Caratos across a larger order should confirm which support frame version, aluminium alloy or die-cast magnesium, is being supplied.
