Colosseo Coffee Table

Colosseo belongs to a category of furnishing objects that change function with the occasion, and for this piece that means moving between coffee table and ottoman rather than settling on one job. The shape follows a considered geometry: an upside down truncated cone, its surface lightened by arch shaped grooves that echo the Roman amphitheatre the piece is named after.

The body is molded from hard polyurethane, stiff enough to support someone sitting on it while allowing the cone shape and its grooves to be produced in one continuous piece, finished in a glossy lacquer. Inside, a panel in MDF wood fibre reinforces the structure, and the base rests on a felt underside that protects the floor. Colosseo is offered in two sizes: the smaller reads as an occasional stool, the larger as a coffee table in front of a sofa.

Because Colosseo moves easily between a coffee table and extra seating, it suits a living room that needs occasional flexible seating without committing floor space to a dedicated stool. Designers furnishing a smaller room can use the smaller size as the only occasional table, since its dual function does the work of two separate pieces.
