Fil de Fer began as a one-off, made for a specific commission that in the end went a different direction. Rather than discard the piece, it stayed on display in the workshop, and every time it was turned on it changed the mood of the room enough that work continued on it long after the original project was forgotten. That origin is why the lamp still reads as something made by hand rather than drawn first and built second.

The shade is a sphere of aluminium wire, shaped and woven by hand rather than cast or pressed. Small bulbs sit inside the wire structure, lighting it from within so the woven wire itself becomes the visible light source rather than a shade hiding a fixture behind it. The sphere hangs from a nickel base, or from a gold-coloured plated base in the matt gold version.

Because the sphere comes in more than one size, Fil de Fer can be scaled to the room, from a smaller pendant above a dining table to a larger sphere in a stairwell or a double height space. In a residential or hospitality interior, it works best where the fixture itself is meant to be seen rather than tucked out of sight.
