Fil Noir

Fil Noir takes its name from a single idea: a continuous thread, or tube, that is not just an outline but the actual body of the chair. That one metal element forms the frame, carries the load, and wraps around to create the back, so the chair reads as one uninterrupted line rather than parts pieced together. Minotti keep the tube in a stark matte black, softened by a ring of polished metal set at each corner for a moment of contrast.

The frame is metal tubing roughly 20 mm across, and the backrest and seat are built on a metal structure with elastic strap webbing, encased in fire-resistant polyurethane foam and wrapped in a breathable, heat-bonded fireproof fiber. The backrest carries an additional temperature-sensitive foam insert for extra give, and the seat cushion is filled with channeled goose down, certified to the Assopiuma Gold Label standard, over a structural support core. Fabric covers can be removed by taking the metal frame apart; leather upholstery is fixed and does not come off.

As a single lounge chair, Fil Noir suits a living room corner, a reading chair beside a window, or a pair flanking a console table where its slim frame will not crowd the space. Because the leather version cannot be re-covered, a fabric Fil Noir is the easier choice anywhere covers may need cleaning over time, while leather suits a quieter setting where a fixed cover is not a concern. Its enveloping back and cushioned seat make it as comfortable for conversation as for reading.
