Liagò

Liagò takes its name from the Venetian liagò, an open loggia built into a historic facade, and carries that idea of an opening into a case built with a 50 millimeter thick frame. Despite that solidity, the side and back panels are assembled using a folding method that creates a hidden compartment running through the case, built to carry power cables and connections for a television, speakers, lamps or other wired equipment without the cords showing.

The external frame is veneered MDF, with door and drawer fronts in the same wood or in marble, finished matt or glossy, so a marble top can be paired with wood or marble fronts below it. The base sits on steel profiles with plastic feet, or the case can be raised on steel feet directly on the floor. Inside, the units are lined with a matt anthracite material chosen for its resistance to scratches and fingerprints, with shelves in smoked, etched glass, and pull-out trays in grey Canaletto walnut offered as an accessory. An LED lighting system, activated by a presence sensor rather than a manual control, can be added inside the case and in the tall unit’s open compartment.

As a sideboard for a dining or living room, Liagò’s hidden cable compartment makes it a practical place to house a television or other equipment needing power nearby, while still reading as closed storage from the front. A designer choosing between the low units and the tall hinged or flap door version should weigh whether the piece needs to hold equipment at seating height or simply provide storage, since the cable routing runs through the case either way.
