Borea Outdoor Daybed

Borea’s daybed works from one moving part doing two jobs: a large reclinable section of the back that, when raised, gives an elongated shape built for one or two people to lie down or recline, and when lowered, turns the same piece into an open island that can be sat on from any side. The oval geometry that runs through the whole Borea series carries into this version as its visual identity.

The supporting frame is built from curved aluminium tubes over a fixed slatted base in aluminium sheet, and the mattress itself, about 6 cm thick, is built from a shaped polyurethane of varying density under a polyester fibre layer, so the padding can be firmer where the frame needs support and softer where a body actually rests. The daybed is part of B&B Italia’s outdoor range, and a waterproof protective cover in PES fabric coated with polyurethane on one side is listed for it.

Borea’s daybed is built for exactly the settings B&B Italia designed it for: poolside areas at hotels and resorts, where the reclinable back lets the same piece serve a guest lying down and a guest sitting up without needing two separate pieces of furniture nearby. In a private garden or on a terrace it does the same job at a smaller scale, and designers arranging several together should plan for the back to be lowered on some and raised on others rather than fixing every daybed in one position.
