The Big O version of Heracleum takes its shape from a crown: a radiating, circular form built from a cluster of slender branches, each tipped with a leaf shaped lens. It belongs to the wider Heracleum family, which can also be built to run in straight lines or bent into square geometric shapes, but this piece keeps to the closed, crown like circle that gives it its name.

The branching structure is built on a metal wire frame, with polycarbonate lenses standing in for the leaves along each arm, and the whole fixture hangs from an ultra thin suspension wire that keeps the frame reading as light as possible. Rather than running conventional wiring through each branch, Moooi powers the fixture through an Electrosandwich technique, and Moooi describe the Big O as a design that would not be possible with normal wires.

As an overhead form with real presence, Big O suits a dining table or an entryway where a room benefits from one strong focal point above eye level, and it comes in two sizes so the same design can anchor a smaller entry or fill a larger dining or living room. Designers should choose the size against the scale of the room first, since the branching form reads very differently compact than it does at full spread.
