Noonu Sofa

Noonu continues a project that began with B&B Atoll in 2018, and the idea behind both is the same: a frame that disappears from view, so the upholstered volumes look as though they float rather than rest on something anyone can see. The system builds that idea from four basic shapes, a square, a rectangle, and two forms described as a piano element and a sail element, each giving a different profile to the backrest or the front edge of a composition.

Underneath, the frame is tubular steel wrapped in flexible cold shaped polyurethane foam under a polyester fibre cover, and the seat is one large cushion in shaped polyurethane of varying density finished in polyester fibre and cotton, built for the deep seat the range is known for. A roller element, filled with sterilized down over visco elastic polyurethane inside a die-cast aluminium frame, is bound to the composition on webbing and can be used as an armrest, moved into a headrest position, or taken off entirely depending on how the sofa is being used. The whole cover, offered in fabric or in leather, wraps around a die-cast aluminium edge that runs the full perimeter of the frame.

Because the roller element can be repositioned or removed, Noonu suits a living room where the same seating needs to work for conversation, for reading, and for lying down, without swapping in other furniture for each use. Its scale and four-shape system fit a larger, open living area built around one long run of seating, and the range sits alongside pieces from B&B Atoll and the Mirto, Diesis and Pianura tables.
