This anniversary edition takes the chair and ottoman first designed in 1969 and gives it a new dress rather than a new shape: a beige and petrol green striped fabric drawn from the original colour palette. The idea is continuity, marking the fiftieth year of a design that went on to win the XXVII Compasso d’Oro ADI Product Career Award in 2022. Only the covering changes; the shape stays as it was.

Underneath the striped cover, the chair keeps its original construction: flexible cold shaped polyurethane foam gives the seat its give, while a base in jute fabric with PVC trimming anchors the piece to the floor. A metallic button links the cover to the base where the two meet, and on the base itself the button is finished in thick leather. A nylon cord ties the chair to its ottoman, keeping the two pieces reading as one composition rather than two objects.

Because the anniversary stripe is a strong pattern, the chair works best as a single accent piece in a living room or study, read on its own rather than repeated across a seating group. Its connected ottoman needs floor space in front of it as well as beside it, so designers should plan the chair and ottoman as one footprint rather than measuring the chair alone.
